Hay is a delightful township and home to the spectacular new attraction SHEAR OUTBACK – The Australian Shearers’ Hall of Fame. Set in the heart of the Riverina and on the eastern edge of the New South Wales Outback, Hay is located almost halfway between Sydney and Adelaide and is set beside the Murrumbidgee River at the junction of the Sturt, Cobb and Mid Western Highways.

Hay's history is rich with tales of boom and bust – of isolation and innovation.

Visit Hay's five amazing Museums:

  • Shear Outback - The Australian Shearers Hall of Fame
  • Dunera Museum - Hay Internment and POW Camps Interpretative Centre
  • Bishop's Lodge Historic House & Heritage Rose Garden
  • Hay Gaol Museum
  • Hay War Memorial High School Museum

You can visit the parks with their beautiful rose gardens and BBQ facilities and in the summer the free Olympic swimming pool is open for everyone.

The Murrumbidgee River is a focal point for Hay, ideal for camping, picnics and water sports. Enjoy a day on the river, catching Murray Cod. Spend time in Hay and be amazed by the wildlife, our everlasting sunsets and the 'chandelier of stars' night sky.

You can call into the Hay Visitor Information Centre and go for a ride on our free bikes and admire our beautiful heritage buildings or visit Chris McClelland's Art Gallery who is Hay's famous "Wildlife Artist".
